Ethereum inventor Vitalik Buterin thinks it is possible to replace pregnant women with synthetic wombs. And, what’s most important, he sees a reason for that.
Vitalik Buterin is famous for his critical thinking. It allowed him to create Ethereum, a leading blockchain technology that fuels many prominent cryptocurrencies and the whole world of NFTs.
He also proposed to revolutionize many aspects of modern society with blockchain technologies, such as cities, medical industry etc.
Now he talks about replacing pregnant women with synthetic wombs. No blockchain mentioned for whatever reason.
Why does Vitalik Buterin want to replace pregnant women with synthetic wombs?
According to The Next Web article, the 27-year-old Vitalik Buterin had pitched a bold solution to the gender pay gap: synthetic wombs.
“Synthetic wombs would remove the high burden of pregnancy, significantly reducing the inequality,” he tweeted on Tuesday.
The proposal gained support from several tech bros — but incurred the wrath of feminists.
They disagree with the notion that pregnancy itself is the very reason why the pay gap exists.
They also argued that biological gestation isn’t the main barrier to gender equality. Instead, they pointed to the high costs of childrearing, limited governmental support, and widespread sexism.
Some pointed to the positive aspects of pregnancy. Some even suggested that Vitalik Buterin was disconnected from reality. Or he might have not ever seen a pregnant woman from a close distance.
Those crypto boys are funny
Vitalik Buterin is quickly becoming the second Elon Musk. He is a techno billionaire who is trying to spread his influence far beyond the field that allowed him to succeed.
Buterin’s technoutopian solution emerged in a discussion started by the ultimate tech visionary: the self-described “utopian anarchist,” Elon Musk.
The Tesla tycoon had been expressing his long-held concerns about population collapse:
We should be much more worried about population collapse. If there aren’t enough people for Earth, then there definitely won’t be enough for Mars.
Synthetic wombs would presumably provide Musk with the workers that his Martian colony requires.
Musk and Buterin have several things in common. Both have founded lionized companies, joined the billionaires’ club, and cultivated the image of brilliant polymaths. Some people even claim that Vitalik Buterin and Elon Musk might be the mysterious creators of Shiba Inu.
The duo is also capable of laughing at themselves — in a weirdly self-aggrandizing sort of way.
