The Metaverse is coming, whether you like it or not. But if you are skeptical about it’s bright future please take a look at some of the Metaverse technologies that are already here.
The true metaverse concept – as Neil Stephenson or Mark Zuckerberg described it – is still far away from implementation.
Despite that some platforms are bravely calling themselves the ‘metaverse’ and trying to bring us closer to the web3 era.
Their products are nothing like the real Metaverse we are all dreaming about. But technologies that can really bring us web3 have already emerged and shown what they are capable of.
Most of these Metaverse technologies are from VR and AR fields, as well as blockchain and crypto economy.
And some of these Metaverse technologies are really mind-blowing.
Web3 identity
We will all have new digital identities in the Metaverse, no doubt about that.
It means the brand-new approach to our digital presence and storing our data due to the concepts of ‘Internet of place’ and ‘Internet of ownership.’
Some of these projects are already being developed by Microsoft Mesh and Omniverse from Nvidia, says Accenture’s Group Chief Executive for Technology Paul Daugherty.
“Then there’s the internet of ownership which is really foundational – new forms of identity, and establishing unique identities for people and objects on the internet,” he underlines.
Daugherty believes that current cryptocurrencies and things like fungible and non-fungible tokens are already presenting the ‘Internet of ownership’. And they will be be a gamechanger for businesses soon.
The Programmable World
This technology is linked with the current concept of IoT (Internet of Things). As of now, we have bunches of computerized devices from kettles to cars.
So in the future, we should see programmable medicines or materials. For example, a block of concrete or wood that can self-repair when it becomes cracked.
“All those things are becoming reality, and it extends what businesses can do and has a lot of benefits including sustainability”, Daugherty says.
Similar to how you can create anything in the first prototypes of metaverses, you will soon be able to think about new ways to conceptualize and build products.
Real vs Unreal Metaverse technologies
The metaverse technologies tend to transfer all the real objects to the virtual world.
So the main purpose of the AI algorithms will be to differentiate authentic and inauthentic objects in the new virtual reality.
Considering the deepfakes, some companies now spend a lot of money using this technology backward for creating virtual but authentic content.
“Lots of work with generative neural networks that will hopefully give us some technological solutions as well,” Paul Daugherty thinks.
Impossible computing
Have you heard about Moore’s Law? According to it, computers tend to roughly double in power every two years.
Today Google, IBM, Intel and other tech companies are working on supercomputers that can operate millions of times faster than traditional PCs.
We also have working quantum computers that can actually break the whole existing internet network.
For instance, by quantum computing, you can easily crack the private keys of any digital assets wallet. At least in theory.
And that is the real threat to the crypto community.
But it can also be the greatest advantage if used properly.
With this new era type of computing, you can solve problems like immediate big data transfers or even create new kinds of materials.
And yes, w might soon be able to play Fortnite 100 million times faster than on an average GPU.
3D reconstruction for Metaverse technologies
Similar to IoT concept, the new 3D reconstruction technologies can generate the whole metaverse worlds.
With different kinds of 3D cameras and spatial data, you can create realistic and spaces and take the whole Earth online.
Accurate and photorealistic 3D models of buildings, physical locations, and objects will be the basis of the metaverse. So we definitely need this tech to create digital twins of all the physical world objects.
That’s all seems like madness for now. But remember that Travis Scott hold his concert in Fortnite metaverse in 2020.
So we are so close to seeing these new web3 era Metaverse technologies in our next-gen real-virtual world.
